SDC Trailers, the largest manufacturer of semi-trailers in the UK and Ireland, has invested in 11 Chinese scissor aerial work platforms as the company switches from leasing aerial work platforms to buying them.
Founded in 1978, SDC Trailers produces blinds, box trucks, platforms, frames, tow bars and mechanical transport trailers for logistics operators, supermarket chains and rental companies. In addition to providing pioneering semi-trailer solutions for transport operators, the business operates an extensive spare parts network with 18 branches and an inventory of more than 16,000 truck and trailer parts.
At the company's 600,000 sq ft production sites in Toombridge, Antrim, Mansfield and Southampton, scissor-fork aerial work platforms are commonly used to assist in the production of side-curtain trailers. The company has been renting scissor-and-fork aerial work platforms for use on its production line for years, but has now decided to buy its own equipment.
AJ Armstrong director Andrew Armstrong said SDC Trailers chose the electric scissoring and fork aerial work platform because it was greener and easier to charge and run.
McErlean added that the live demonstration allowed the company to finalize the deal. "The equipment demonstration gave us the opportunity to evaluate the electric shear and fork equipment in the field, and in the long run, it is more economically attractive to buy from Chinese high-altitude equipment manufacturers."
